Religious Education

321sml318pxBulwell C of E is a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, therefore the provision of RE must be in accordance with the Trust Deed of the School. The Governors in consultation with the Head teacher have decided, following advice from the diocese, to adopt the Locally Agreed Syllabus and supplement this with material from the Diocese and elsewhere.

We are a multicultural/multi-faith school that values and respects all people equally within our school community. We therefore aim to foster an understanding of the diversity of religious belief in Bulwell and beyond, drawing parallels between Christian’s values and those of other faiths or none.

We strive to educate the children in a Christian environment which embodies Christian values. We have defined these as:

  • Honesty
  • Forgiveness
  • Respect
  • Courage
  • Friendship
  • Creativity

These values are taught explicitly through RE and collective worship. However, they are at the heart of everything we do, and enable the children to fulfil their potential and have an understanding of Christian values and morals in their lives.

On June 21st our school was visited by two inspectors from the Diocese for a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS.)  All Church of England Dioceses and the Methodist Church use the Church of England Education Office's framework for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) under Section 48 of the Education Act 2005.

I am very pleased to say that Bulwell St Mary’s C of E Primary School was rated ‘good’ in all areas and was very close to outstanding.  A copy of the full inspection report can be found here SIAMS report.
